Post by Dan Tweed grey »

Will be fitting new sills soon, Should my '65 mk1 have a square hole jacking point?
Also what else should be there, 4 vents?
Cheers, Dan.....

As far as I'm aware it should have square jacking points (pretty sure all Minis do)

4 vent sills - if you haven't got genuine ones I highly recommend Mini Machine ones.

Have you got the little factory jig brackets that weld onto the inner sill and outer sill ? They are not of much use now but are a sign of a good restoration ;) Not sure if the rear one is different on a saloon, these are pics from my pick up. Please ignore the drain tube you'll see, sticking out in pic 2, that's for pick ups only.

This is an original right hand jacking point from a 1963 car. You can just make out the 'R' stamped in the back of it.

That's what I call square jacking points Dan, as supplied by Mini Machine (and presumably Heritage).

What's the threaded insert bit?
I thought there was just a square hole.

That's not the jacking point Dan, that's the slinging shoe (factory jig) bracket that bolted the shells to the production line. That is in addition to the jacking point that Simon posted up.

Saloon type jacking points aren't fitted to vans and pick ups (maybe estates as well ?) , hence the absence of one in my photo.

I'll see if I can find a picture of the jacking point and slinging shoe bracket on my 'S' and post up
