Flywheel Locking Taps

Post by 100BUR »

Do I need to fit the Flywheel locking tabs part no 2A3512?

Is the locking tab kit 18G8086 available? Not listed on Minispares or Minisport sites

If all the sources fail to supply I should have some lock tabs spare.

I use the same locktabs as Vegard.

Loctite 243.

All the traditional metal locktabs that I've come across these days are too soft, so where they are under the fastener, they ooze out and so the fastener looses tension, then being as soft as they are, they then kindly bend out of the way allowing the fastener to unscrew.

In summery, they are in fact unlocktabs.

I also Locktite. I once had a set that was so soft that I couldn't get consistent torque readings.

Out of curiousity, does the softness of the lock tabs apply to new old stock 80s items or just the last of the lock tab kits.?

The original BMC and Leyland ones where fine, it just seems to be the later day (aftermarket?) replacements that are an issue.

The OEM ones you really had to bend up using tools, but the new ones I can do some with my fingers.

Not necessarily, though the higher strength grades usually have less 'filling' ability, so if there's gaps there, it may in fact end up lower adhesion. They work very well with good fitting parts.

For Gods sake, do NOT fit lock tabs on the flywheel.
I've seen sufficient loose flywheels.
