cant rail?

Post by Dan Tweed grey »

now then, you can buy the rail that the rear view mirror fixes to also you can get the side and rear rail but i cannot find the corner to join the front and side together.
obviously this is the piece I need!
Anyone have any input?
I need someone with a scrap shell that I could cut the corner out of maybe.

Which side do you need or is it both ?

I might be able to help, having replaced adjacent panel work on my pick up by using sections of a scrap shell and drilling the welds out to separate the component parts.

I'll see what I can find tomorrow Dan and let you know.

If you want some inspiration at what can be done, have a look at my '75 pick up project thread. Unless its as bad as my shell was, don't worry too much :)

I would say mine is very bad, but I can see past all the panels I need to replace.
Something like that rail corner are hard to make if you cannot find one! I've ordered some panels for the front end to get me started. :|

hi Dan
there are two types of corner piece , early up to sept 64 are rounded in the corner and the later hydo shell ones have a flat area where the swinging visor goes .you say yours is 65 then it should have the flat with holes
I have just bought the only bmc nos one I have ever seen for my 65 shell that I am going to build .

If I have one, it definitely won't have the hole in it.

Update...

Looks like I cut through the corner piece in order to separate the remains of the cant rail from the roof and pillar sections :(

I'm surprised nobody makes them, seems a few people need them.
I think I'm going to have to find a later one and modify to suit! :| The cant rails seem a similar profile?

There must have been two of those !
Only the L/H wiper hole to weld up , pity there's not an image of the back , fingers cross mines a 65
Did you try him with the post?
Mind you most of its the international part, they will just post them to a depot .I bet they put them all together, so should give a discount!

Looks like most the mk1 panels have gone since that link
To be honest I wasn't sure if the screen frame I bought came with the panel you want .. So I may have a spare for you also
