Hydrolastic Schrader Valve Caps. (13H4714)
Hello All,
I have two different Schrader Valve Caps that were on my 1966 MCS
when purchased in 1973. I have often wondered if they were BMC parts. It's seems very unlikely.
They are metal bronze color with ribbing at the top. One cap has the CLEVELAND OIL stamped near the top of the cap.
Does anyone have original BMC CAPS (13H4714) ? Is there anything unusual or unique
about them ? Anyone have any photos of them ?
What do you experts say ?

Aint no expert but here's my 2p of knowledge:
Never seen the Cleveland oil one before.
Cap in second pic looks like a BMC/Leyland part. like the one's in my back pocket.
Now if I told you the one's in my back pocket are from a rather exclusive vehicle named Austin Allegro you'd probably throw them away
But pretty sure they looked the same on all the ADO16's I've ripped the engines out of and also what where fitted to some of the hydro mini's thats been pumped up here.
Some of those mini's had one or two plastic caps..
So in short: Cleveland one - No! Second one - maybe.

The second one has Schrader stamped into it, chances that as supplier of the valves these would be correct.

Second one looks right to me. The same as both my mk2's have had
I've got a 69 Mini with a 1046, Cooper Head and a four on the floor.

They just have standard Schrader valve caps as far as I know.

I have these 3 caps.
1 came with my 1966 “S” when I purchased it in 1993.
The other 2 came with 4 displacers I recently purchased.
I can see UK2525 on the side.

I'm left wondering why you need the virtually unseen solid hexagonal caps on your mini(?) as opposed to the standard everyday rolled form nickel plated brass or plastic screw-on covers.
If you feel the need to tighten the hexagonal caps with a small spanner for additional security or to prevent leaks, then bear in mind that these are simply DUST CAPS and not VALVE SEALS. The actual sealing is done by the standard schrader valve core available from all tyre fitters for a few pence and definitely NOT the cap.
As a matter of interest, the cores can and do leak and it's an easy fix. Deflate the system, remove the valve core and clean out the valve core housing and seating with a couple of what are known as INTERDENTAL BRUSHES of various hardnesses, available from any Chemist. Just scrub the housing out, replace the valve core and a couple of everyday brass or plastic caps with new and re-pressurise.
Cost £1. Time taken 30 minutes
And don't forget that once you have used the little interdental brush to clean the crap out of the schrader valve, don't use it for cleaning out the gaps in your teeth!!!!!
