Sneak Preview...

Post by ianh1968 »

The latest version of the carburetter needles spreadsheet (v021.Mk1) is now ready...

Hopefully at some point this latest release dated 16/10/2015 will appear here:
http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.u ... l_carb.htm

Needles.ods is a comprehensive tool including all you are ever likely to
need in making your own needle choice. What it will not do, however, is
make that decision for you based on the colour of your furry dice and
the diameter of your steering wheel (and whether or not you have a
"Skull" gear-knob) ...

* Covers both SU and Zenith-Stromberg CD Needles
* Contains a large selection of needle charts
* Shows data in table and chart format
* Works on the more realistic effective area in the jet as opposed to the diameters
* Allows comparison of needles from different jet sizes
* Converts needles between jet sizes
* Allows for needles which have been filed
* Calculates the effect of dropping the jet
* Suggests needles to use based on dimensions
* Contains a database of part numbers
* Contains a cross reference of many "Mini-based" needles
* Does NOT require an internet connection
* Does NOT require registration
* Does NOT require payment of a fee for full functionality

To give you a taster of what it's all about, here are a few screenshots:
You can click the images a couple of times to make them bigger.

Needles.ods is available totally free of charge with all the features functional,
and ONLY via the
http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.uk/mk1_index.htm website.

Latest release details:

Code: Select all

2015/10/16
Release 021.Mk1
Database of all known SU and Stromberg part numbers added. This is available on
the “Comments” tab which now includes a comprehensive “Lookup” feature.
Some needles do not have a part number listed and there are some part numbers
which do not have a set of needle dimensions available.
Were the latter “place-holders” for future needles? If any users are able to
assist in filling the gaps, they are asked to contact the author.
Comments added for many standard/lean/rich needles used in 'A' Series engines.
“Comments” now has a freeze line, scrolling only the “user-defined” comments.
“Notes:” area shrunk on “Advanced” to allow a table containing the list of SU
springs to be included.
Tab “Chart” added, a larger “full-sized” chart which can be set to show either
the data from “Basic” or “Advanced”.
Limited support/data added for SU 3/16” (0.1875”) needles and SU 1/4” (0.250”)
needles, see the new F187 and F250 tabs. “Filed A/F” and “Drop Jet” are not
available for indeces higher than index 16. Use “Basic” to view all indeces.
Layout and appearance optimised for viewing on 1280x768 resolution monitors and
printing “Advanced”, “Basic” and “Chart” on A4 (210mm x 297mm) sized paper.

NB: On the data tabs and “Comments” tab, if it is set at all, the default
“Print Range” will be set as the first page only. This is only to allow the
sample “ReadMeFirst” .pdf file to be created. To enlarge the print ranges:
Highlight the total area required, then select “Format”→”Print Ranges”→”Define”.
Please don't hesitate to contact me via PM if you need any further information!

Ian,,,, it's guys like you that make the internet worthwhile.

Nice work mate.

It does appear to be a far more comprehensive tool than the others, not that they are to be sneezed at either, but this is street ahead.

Thanks.

Now, where's that damn skull,,,,,,,

Thanks, Spider:
Needles was a personal project that "got out of hand"...
I'm just glad that others are able to benefit from it as well.

This is a family heirloom and when it was fitted to an otherwise standard 850 Mini,
the carb needle had to be changed for the "official rich" one as it became hesitant
at cruise:

... perhaps the bright orange painted wheels affected the calibration as well,
who knows...

Re: Sneak Preview... v021.Mk1 NOW AVAILABLE (WOW!!!)

Post by ianh1968 »

Mark F has been really busy and has already put the latest version on the Mk1 site,
here: http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.u ... l_carb.htm
... talk about speed of light! A big THANK YOU to Mark...

Although the date still refers to the previous issue, the file that will
download is most definitely the one dated 16/10/2015. I am pretty sure
that this date business will get sorted in due course - This involves a slight
edit to actual site, but making v021.Mk1 available so incredibly quickly
required only copying a file to the server...
:ugeek:

As always, if anyone has any queries regarding the spreadsheet, I will be
more than happy to assist. Conversely, if you are able to help at all in
providing data for any of the elusive needles, please PM me!
