As the title says, I would like to choose a camshaft.
Ah you say, engine specs please.
850 block bored for 998 flat top pistons, block face decked down, 3 cam bearings fitted, probably twin 1 1/4" SU's.
Why??? you say, cos I can!
Got inspiration from a mini featured in Miniworld sometime ago.
Would like something not too lumpy, but with a bit of oomph over std.

Re: Camshaft choice, Evolution vs SW5/8
My first mini was a 1960 Morris 850. I had the block machined for three cam bearings and bored for .060 Power Max pistons. Fitted a 295 head surfaced .100 and used a 510 Cooper S cam. Twin 1 1/4 SUs on Cooper S intake with S dizzy. Cooper S exhaust shortened a little. I'm sure the 4.10 CWP helped but it was the most fun mini to drive. Looking back a 997 cam may have been a better choice. On 4.5 Cooper S rims and Dunlop race tires the ones with little Xs it was a top five car in local 50 plus car autocross you may call it sprinting. That was in the late 60s early 70s. Went from that to a Cooper S on gumball slicks and FTD when there were events every weekend some place near by. Steve (CTR)

OK my engine is a bit bigger...
But i just did the Durban to Johannesburg run (KwaZulu Natal coast to the Guateng Highveld) in my 1380 with one of Rich's Evo cams.
My car was loaded to the gullets, with 13" rims for the trip, and a 3.1 CWP.
The cam pulls like a train, i would recommend it to anyone wanting a good daily road car.
