Manifold washer for different size flanges?

Post by sandman »

Anyone know of any washers that will solve the problem og having different thickness on inlet and exhaust manifold flanges?

Im sick of fiddeling with ground down org. washers, they always end up the wrong way.
Cheers,

I don't know of any off the shelf stepped washers, though a few things you can try;-

Bend the existing washer, just a small kink through the middle, this will be OK if the difference is no more than about 1/16" (1.5 mm).

Braze some steel wire on to the washers, a small piece either side of the hole works, but again, only OK for differences up to about 1/16", just be sure the wire is thicker than any difference.

Have your washers ground with a step in them to suit.

I think the Land Rover 2.25 l petrol engine (series 2a and 3) has some washers with a 'finger' on end that go on to the inlet and exhaust manifolds.

Not sure if they are too big for a mini though... They do fit over a 5/16 ths stud

They are at the bottom of the picture on this page:

Grind down the flange.
