F PLATES WELDED TO DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR FOOTWELL

Post by John-B »

HI

Can anyone who owns an original MKII Mini built in or around June 1969 let me know how many numbers there are on the 'F' plate welded to the floor in the drivers side foot well?

There looks to be 5 or possibly 6 numbers on my car's F plate but difficult to see due to some corrosion in this area.

Mine had loads of 'F' in plates in the floor, if you find out how it would have looked i'd be curious. I'd imagine its like an FE number across the corner of the floor pan?
I've got a 69 Mini with a 1046, Cooper Head and a four on the floor.

This is a picture taken of the footwell with the tag still in it's original spot:

Masnarda

From your photo it looks like they also put the plates on the passenger side or is your car lefthand drive?

I am interested in how many numbers there should be following the letter 'F' on the plate and what the size the original plate should be.

I have cut out and saved the original 'F' plate from my MKII car prior to the drivers footwell being replaced but due to the corrosion in the plate it's hard to see if there care 5 or 6 numbers after the 'F'.
How many numbers are there on your plate as I can't just see that on your photo?

is there such a thing as an 'original spot' for the floor tags, they seem to move around, ive got cars where they are lined up with the edges of the pressing as well

I guess if your only job was spotwelding tags to floors, you wouldn't be the most careful or observant person!
should you wish, you can contact me on rich@minispares.com

What was the point of the floor tags anyway?

They must have been linked to assembly line production records.

Thanks for the photos, it does look as there are 6 numbers on the plates after the preceding letter 'F or L'.

With regard to the size of the plates, the one I have salvaged from my car measures 80 X 22MM, does that check out with the size of the plates in the photos?
