speedwell a35 query

Post by homa »

I was aware that speedwell offered an exhaust center port casting
which bolted into the heat exchange for A35s with twin carb conversions (as pictured center)

but this picture below caught my eye, it doesnt look just like a plate but a whole bolt on runner,
am i looking at it wrong ?
could someone shed some light on it

It's because the inlet manifold/ centre exhaust section bolted to the rest of the exhaust manifold. So when you swap to the twin inlet manifold, there is no centre exhaust section. The kit probably predates the Mk1 Sprite, so no twin SU manifolds from BMC.

It's not to replace an SU, the early A35s had a downdraft Zenith carb.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who do not possess it.

Always interested in A35s. My last one would smoke it's tyres in 3rd and was a full race midget in disguise.

when you remove the standard inlet you are left with a hole in the exhaust manifold which the kit provides a cover plate

the second picture looks like the branch has been replaced
