My little 997 cooper has a failing 3rd gear (struggles when coming down through the gears, and you need to get the rev correct in order for it to mesh going up)
Can anyone recommend a reputable gearbox builder/rebuilder?
My thinking is to nurse the car this year until I taker her off the road for winter, then I can remove the gearbox and deliver it as required.
Equally, I'm think do I pick up a spare gearbox and have this refurbished in the meantime, in which case does anyone have recommendations for a suitable remote replacement?
Regards
Harvey

If you still have a cone synchromesh box in there I think anyone is going to struggle to rebuild it due to parts availability.
Any mini remote box will fit as a replacement, probably the 22g1128 4 synchro is the best for road use and most plentiful to find and get the spares for but if you buy one make sure it's for a Mini and not the Austin 1100/1300 as the remote is different. There are a lot advertised on eBay as Mini gearboxes and they are not.
If you're feeling brave, I watched this and the stuff on guess-works.com and then rebuilt my own. You need a couple of tools though (and a big torque wrench).

I might be able to help with a NOS cone type third gear if necessary.

Cheers Guys
I suspect I will take a visit to Southam when its ready for the transplant, I'm within a reasonable distance.
I think I may look out for the later 22g1198 4 synchro box and then keep mine to one side as a spare.
With regards the cones, I think my car fell after the upgrade and therefore I suspect may have slightly improved design gearbox.
Regards
