Any good ideas on getting the tappet chest gaskets to stay in place when you tighten the central bolt up, I tried some blue hylomar to no avail?
As you tighten the bolt the gasket just squeezes out from behind the breather allowing oil to drip when you shut down the engine and the oil collects in the tappet chest.

I always use a bit of superglue . Never affects anything and I've never had one leak ... Ken

I also use RTV. To prevent slipping, apply a thin film, assemble the parts with the bolt finger-tight and then wait several hours (or preferably over night). Fully tighten when the RTV has cured.

Yes, with the early convex covers with no lip to hold the gasket, a bit of glue is essencial. And don't tight the bolts too much, that will make the gaskets pop out.
