Re-Launch Of Cooper Conversion Kits & Accessories

Re-Launch Of Cooper Conversion Kits & Acessories
The Cooper Car Company was founded in 1946 by Charles Cooper and his son John Cooper. They began by building racing cars in Charles' small garage in Surbiton, Surrey, England in 1946. Through the 1950s and early 1960s, they reached auto racing's highest levels as their rear-engined, single-seat cars altered the face of Formula One and the Indianapolis 500, and their Mini Cooper dominated Rally racing.

The small company took the big guns on and in 1959 won the coveted Formula 1 World Championship, Jack Brabham becoming Champion and the Cooper T51 taking the honours. Success followed in 1960 with Jack winning the title and Cooper's the manufacturers tittle.

Thanks in part to Cooper's legacy, Britain remains the home of a thriving racing industry, and the Cooper name lives on with BMW in the MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S and MINI John Cooper Works

Nice website but its all just the generic paddy hopkirk stuff and all the other stuff everyone else sells - Maniflow, Motalita, Burlen fuel systems etc.

Would have thought there would be some NICE stuff in there (his bikes are bloody nice pieces of work)

Sorry to have to agree, looks like a load of very generic stuff all of which is to a greater or lesser extent available elsewhere at a massively inflated price.

Would have been nice to see at least a few offerings that were truly unique. But in all fairness, I don't think that these particular offerings or for that matter the Paddy H stuff that is retailed through Minisport are really aimed at our end of the Mini Market are they?

I say good luck to both of them, but I am afraid the chances of me buying an "official" JC steering wheel at £430 or a set of PH rocker cover bolts in the shape of a PH logo for £25 are fairly slim.

Nothing more than another Minisport Licensing deal, hit the where are we button on the CCC site & look what pops up.

I thought Mike Cooper had moved into bicycles because he signed a lucrative deal which become effective in January 2007, where BMW officially acquired the rights to the John Cooper Works name and for it to become MINI's equivalent of the BMW "M' brand?

BMW and MINI have aquired the rights to the John Cooper Works brand in a deal signed yesterday (Dec 2006):

I can't see these items selling in any great quantity , there so expensive . Also noticed the original works s air filter extension isn't included . That latest huge incarnation that paddy was driving bears no resemblance to a mini at all to me . BMW have the power and money to manufacture a mini more a kin to the original . They should be getting smaller not heading towards the size of a range rover  ... Ken

The above press release refers to the "John Cooper Works" brand.

All the stuff that is being sold by Minisport is either "Cooper Car Co" or "John Cooper".

Not much difference, but enough of a gap for a lawyer to drive a coach & horses through.

Maybe they are?......MINI-Minor or MINI City? :D

Rumour: MINI Working on a Small City Car - May 19th, 2014
"Why is MINI so eager to produce something smaller than the F56 (Mk3 MINI)? The brand is born out of a less is more philosophy and a few internally at MINI are concerned that the current product range doesn’t make that point clear enough. A small city car could serve as both a price leader and a halo vehicle that better exemplifies the brand ethos than the current hatch.
According to sources we expect a sneak peek at this new small MINI in concept form late this year or early next."

Minisport has a massive banner on there website about cooper
Seems to be pushing alot of money into Paddy and cooper even though the events eailer this year with them. also there prices have gone up again!

And bmw have been showing the small city car or Rocketmen for about 3 or 4 years now but no sign of it coming out yet, does look pretty cool.

Have you ever read such a load of utter bollox  Apparently the MINI marketing boffins have discovered at rather a late stage that the Mini was a small car! "The brand was born out of...yadda yadda" , the Mini was a genuine concept not a bloody brand, "small on the outside, big on the in?", it's only taken MINI over a decade to discover it! "Brand ethos", 'Less Is More Philosophy??"...what next, Jaguar Landrover : "We've discovered that Jags look nice in green" shocker.

And what the hell is a "Halo Car"?? Isn't that something The Pope drives about in ?

It should be noted Motoringfile is an independent USA website and not part of MINI or BMW marketing.

R50/53 MINI and new Fiat 500 were both designed by Frank Stephenson, however Autocar's review still rates the MCS and Fiesta ST over the Abarth 595....

"The question is: can the latest Abarth, a car that we recall fondly, still mix it up in a supermini market that is about to have an all-new MINI Cooper (always a 500 nemesis) gatecrash through the ceiling? We’ll know in eight pages whether or not there’s some fight left in the old scorpion.....
You might be wondering why, with its design-led cheekiness and zesty performance, you don’t see more Abarths on the road. The first answer is that it is not cheap. With options, the top-spec Competizione can clock in at over £21k.
The second answer is that the car has a direct rival in the shape of the MINI Cooper S – a British-built model that offers similar retro charm and more talent for about the same £18k asking price.
To make matters worse, our favourite hot supermini, the pin-sharp Fiesta ST, starts at just £17k"

BMW have never had the original Leonard Lord brief, Issigonis concept in mind.....ever.
and yep....Mini isnt a brand. I've always hated the 'heritage' attempt at putting wings on the overused expression about a small iconic car to draw a tenous parallel with something historic or heritage...ish....never liked it ...dont like the car.

as for re-launching cooper stuff. I've always steered away from bolt-on copy stuff when its comes to performance cars.
We have for many years in australia, had a problem with fake 'muscle' cars to draw attention, gain apparent street cred and ultimately increase an otherwise dreary sedan in $$ value.
Many are often crushed now under new anti-hoon legislation.

.....and WTF???........2700GBPs for an 80BHP kit!!!!!

Always down to preferance but ive driven a festa ST , a mini jcw and a couple of other super mini's , all nice and everything , quick down the roads definatly but that little 595 was the one that gave the proper wowzer factor - the way you can really chuck it around is stunning , its twitchy , revvy and feels like you need to hang on to it - it made me feel like i was in a grown up mini ... not something ive ever got from the new ones

Not saying its a better car , of course its a fiat (fix it again tomorrow) and will probably fall apart and konk out BUT lets face it so did the proper minis.

And they make a proper road race car the 695 biposto - now thats my modern take on a cooper S

PLEASE!

Don't let this turn into another BMW bashing thread.

We all know that the BMW Mini always arouses strong opinions on all sides. All the arguments have been aired regularly & freely for 10 years or more now & no one is ever going to change their opinion.

I am not suppressing debate, I just don't see the point of trawling over old ground again that has been trod too many times before.

Is that still the case? I must admit I did have a Fiat in the 80's , never seen a car rust so fast! I'm sure someone told me that the 595 Abarth was based on a Ford Ka? Sort of thing that you don't want to know if you're buying one, but yes I can see the appeal of 160bhp from a 1.4!
