Relay help.....Lucas 6RA

Post by Clappy »

Hi,

My mini is in the process of its restoration, and will end up a works (ish) replica.....with twin spot and fog lamps on a works lamp bar.

My question :

Is a 12v / 20 amp Lucas 6RA relay capable of handling these ?

The relays I got with the wiring kits i bought are 40 amp. I plan to run a separate relay for each pair of lamps (switched and working on "flash" from the column).

Cheers

Hi Jon,
1 X Lucas 6RA per pair of lights, in my experience works fine, it was the set up I had on my rally car & never gave any problem, but a word of caution, if you plan to use 100 watt bulbs, it might be pushing the limits!
Regards, Rich.

Thanks Rich,

I've got 2 Lucas Ranger Spots and 2 Ranger Fogs, I think they are both 48w bulbs....so based on your experience, should be a problem !

Make sure you get the correct 6RA relays as you can get open and closed versions

They are the open ones (SRB111). I hope to have them wired up on the switch and main beam (if i can get my head round it !).

I run 2 Lucas 700 lamps with uprated halogen bulbs through a single 6RA relay with no problems at all. Max current draw with two 55w bulbs is under 10amp, two 100w will be under 17amp. Plus I always fuse the main feed anyway.
