Has anybody tried these? I was wondering what pressure you run, as a starter.

Hi Al,

I have used these on my vintage race mini. Basically, I like the tires to come off the track hot at about 28 to 30 psi using air. The temp I start with mostly depends on what the track temp is. Here in So Cal we always seem to be running in 90+ degree heat. I like to start at 20 psi in the front and 22 in the rear. I will go down or up based on how the track temp changes. I have started with as little as 16 psi in the fronts when the air temp goes over 100+. Much past 30 psi hot and the tires loose grip as the race progresses.

Another thing to think about is heat cycles. I have found that these tires last longer and stabilize if you take brand new tires put them through one heat cycle, and then jack the car up or remove them and let them cool down overnight.

Finally, there is set up. I have found for me that these tires like to be "stood up." I use less negative camber front and rear than I used to and I am faster with the added bonus that they last longer. I do rotate them at the track front to rear as well.

If you heat cycle them properly I have had good grip almost all the way to the cord. As with all race tires remove them between races and store them in a cool dry place.

Best wishes

Hi Bart,
Thank you for your helpful comments. I am interested to see you run more pressure rear than front, I have always been the opposite and starting about the same as you, 22 and 20. I am guessing this will be because of the fronts running hotter at the front and increasing more ??

My car has done one season on the current suspension set-up and I will redo it for the coming season. I wonder if you can share with me what camber you are running now please. You are welcome to PM me if you don't want to make it public.

How have you found the Hoosiers?

Regards
Al

I'm getting ready to purchase a set of these as well.
Would the recommended starting PSI change bepending on how wide the wheel is?
The only reason why I ask is most of the historic racing minis I see here in the States run a 4.75 to 5.5in wide wheel.
I will be useing a 4.5in wheel.
