Insurance for a modified mini

Hi all, although not strictly a mk1, I'm buying a lovely later car that has been "aged" using mk1 front and rear parts and a retro interior. It was a 998 but now has a nice 1293cc motor with SCCR box, twin SU and big valve head etc
I just wanted to ask which insurers people have found to be properly understanding of modified minis? I've had some odd conversations so far with so called specialists!

another thumbs up for RH
they happily insure my fleet of modified minis and oddball kits cars for less than 500 quid a year.
my favourite game is to ring up and try to get them to ask 'what the hell is that' when trying to insure some weird and wonderful mini based kit car
only once have they admitted defeat and had to go away to 'have a word with their specialist' - they still insured it though!

Thanks chaps! Sounds promising.
One insurer asked which year car the engine came from? Odd. It was a fully rebuilt and modified 1275 so could have cone from a huge range of years

...look thru the insurers that adv in the M C R Magazine and be honest as far as the tech aspect of the car go when seeking a quote ... get 3 quotes and also get agreed valuation and breakdown cover as part of the deal..dependant on yr age and driving history these cars a cheap to insure.....foxy52

Interesting point around agreed valuation. When you dig a bit deeper it seems that if you pay for agreed valuation you need that value 'rubber stamping' by an authority. You cannot simply decide your car is worth say £25K. When it comes to making a claim I suspect the insurers would put up a fight or not pay out the appropriate amount. This is also something that needs to be updated annually. For the last 5 years I have failed to get an agreed value from anywhere but continue to take that type of policy out.
Who would be able to provide a recognised valuation for me? I guess the Cooper Register?

There's a market for someone to exploit, offer agreed valuations to satisfy ins companies. I'm in the same boat as you, except with a totally non standard car but lots of expensive bits in it.

....yes u answ yr own question.. the M C R did a written one for me 15 years ago... tho insurers have only upped the value twice in that time on my car tho !!!...still its gone up 5k so im happy with that... Mr Vag...very funny made me titter !!!

Got a good quote and service from Brentacre in the end. Nice to speak to an insurer that didn't ask dumb questions...
Car was delivered lastnight and as it's dry will have its first drive tonight
Anyone know a good a series tuner round Hinckley/Leicester/Coventry? She would benefit from some more fuelling adjustments at some point
