Hi,
in January the FIA had published new regulations for cages in historic competition cars. Until now I have a SD Multipoint in the mini. In theory this one may be allowed for cars on period G2 (1970) and younger. But the certificate shows a petty bar which is not allowed. For it is even not allowed to alter a cage, this multipoint is not longer possible. Here I have a SD standard cage too. But the certificate does not show door bars which are now obligatory. I was told that the FIA may once change the regulations and allow to add door bars. But it did not yet happen. OK, there is a German bold in cage made by Wiechers with the right certificate, but they have still no prototype and cannot build one without getting a car. Since 2005 weld in cages are another possibility. Custom cages do offer these with a certificate, but the regulations one time may change again and I do not want a weld in one. There is still Rollcentre with the certificate for a 38mm bold in cage (will be allowed for cars until 1972) with a quite simple design but a lot of weight.
Does anyone have another idea?

How does the FIA manage to complicate things so much ........ always? A roll cage is a roll cage. All they need to specify is material and dimensions.
In Italy, CSAI specify that for Historics cages must be bolt on, but plates must be welded to the bodywork at each of the 6 points. For modern cages, these have to be welded in. What the hell is the difference?
I have an SD cage on mine. I bought the door bars but have not yet fitted them, and need to weld the body plates before presenting it to the scrutineer to get an HTP.
I suppose these people need to be seen to be doing something to justify their salaries. And we pay through the nose for licenses, passports, entry fees and everything else they dream about.

by the end of the year you'll probably need a new passport. Read the new regulations. You will be delighted.

In Germany the responsible follows each word. Therefore a SD today is not possible. As I told, additional doorbars are not allowed but the text says that you need them. Btw, which period you want to do? There are a lot more traps. For example after 1972 a 38mm main tube is not enough. But perhaps it is just a cultural problem. In Germany everything is not allowed is forbidden. In France everything is not forbidden is allowed. Maybe in Italy?

to my understanding a safety device like this one should be allowed. But I did not get it confirmed.

I'm afraid that's how they've got us! It is our choice to get involved and
not take up .....helicopter acrobatics, for example. However, you can be damn sure that there are organisations and individuals making sure they get a slice of your money there too. As soon as you put the label "motorsport" on anything, the price goes up 50%. e.g. I bought some electrical kit from RS Components the other day on my trade account - identical products from Demon Tweeks 312% more!

It seems the same the world over. I am a frequent visitor to Sicily, where, apart from dabbling a bit with my own racing, I manage a team of youngsters from Malta with their hill climbing and circuit racing. Sicily comes under the CSAI which is the Italian motorsport federation affiliated to the FIA.
Up to 2007 it was all CSAI; nobody else organised any other motorsport, but then a couple of other federations sprouted, organising hill climbs, and since 2009 also circuit racing outside the constraints of CSAI. The situation today is that only one of the 5 circuits (not including kart tracks) has CSAI (FIA) homologation, and that is Pergusa, and it is the one that gets least events. The others always have excellent entries, at half the entry fee, and with far less red tape.
I don't know what the situation in UK is regarding clothing and equipment. In Italy under CSAI everything has to be homologated. If your overalls, underwear, shoes, seat belt, seat, fuel tank, etc are expired, even by just a month, you are not allowed to race. Under the new federations, whilst still requiring all such equipment, if the scrutineer thinks a seat belt for example is OK and safe, even if it is expired by a year or 2, it will pass scrutineering, which in my opinion is much more reasonable.
Of course, what most people don't know is that most of the directors of CSAI are also shareholders in Sparco, OMP, Sabelt, etc. The mafia is pretty strong in Italian motorsport

if Germans want to drive in France there is no other way. I am just ordering the fourth Cage for my mini within 20 years. Ridicules? Yes! If anyone is looking for a SD multipoint bold in or a SD standard design lightweight?

Hello,
just got the message that SD added a sheet to the certificate of the multipoint cage, that the petty bar is available as well as will certify door bars for the 6-point cage. That should allow all SD cages to use with FIA regulations.
