Talk to me about megaphones / exhaust options.

Hello Folks,
I have decided to get my old mini going again following starting buying bits again, as well as quitting my 50 hours a week job and replacing it with something more user friendly.
I have been looking at various exhaust options and have briefly got:-
1425cc (73.5mm) 37.5/30 head with sleeved pushrod holes. Weber 45 on 7" manifold with 60mm trumpets, Unknown FULL race cam. Cooper S rockers, Pink Dizzy, SC 4 synchro box, 3.6Sals.
I am sticking a big bore 3 into 1 on it and was wondering what (in the vein of the car, which is pretty much flat out bad manners occasional weekender/hillclimb/trailer/come and pick me up it's exploded) to put after the manifold.
I note that megaphones were used in the 60s and am aware of Vizard's "build your own" megaphone and I was wondering about several factors.
I have a "friendly" MOT station and as long as it's clearly not a straight through pipe, it should be OK. I will consider putting something on if it's too ridiculous.
The name of the game is getting the most out of the engine, making the best low down torque that I can and improving the manners, using every trick in the book.
I do know a bit about exhaust design and I'd be interested in what your thoughts are and instead of paying Maniflow hundreds of pounds, getting my fabricator chum to do an infinitely better job in SS. I'm quite keen on hearing people who have done it, rather than read about it in a book, like myself.
Is position and the shape of the reverse cone important? Were bigger "out" pipes more effective? I will be going centre exit, per anti-roll bar mounts are in the way of the usual place.
