Distributor baseplate

I'm trying to find some more information on the distributors that were used on the early S cars. The baseplate that was used on them appeared to be different to later models. The distributor that came with my mini came with two different ones. One with one bolt fixing and one with the normal two bolt fixing. Does anybody have any ideas on the subject?

I posted to your parallel thread running on the Specialist Mini Forum pages.

Hi Doug,
For those of us not on that forum, can you offer an explanation to the different base plates? I don't think I have ever seen the single bolt type.

Al, this is what Doug wrote on the other forum.
dklawson wrote:The -S would have been a 23D4 without vacuum advance. Standard Minis had the 25D. I suppose the very earliest Minis probably had the DM2.

The A-series engines that I have worked on had the clamp with two bolt holes. Some (but not all) of the early Triumphs I have worked on used a single bolt dizzy clamp. However, I don't think the Triumph clamp shape matched what is shown in your pictures.
I'm hoping that one of the people on here with a very early, unmolested 1071 could check to see what they have on theirs.

Sorry Al. I typically do not repost the same information on multiple forums. What is this board's policy on cross-forum links? If we are allowed to post a link to another board I will gladly do that in the future.

Mine is a very early '63 1071 and it has the double bolt baseplate.
