Early engines - what was painted ?

Hi everyone hoping to get to Blyton at the weekend - just rebuilding an engine for my 61 ( not the one in pic )and need a definitive answer before I paint it - ie what was painted green and what was left alloy on an early engine ?
Please help - brush in hand !

It was all pretty much painted in BMC green.... exept from some elektronic parts, coil and so...

Just done mine. Need to do something with the coil still!

Paint it an aluminium colour or even black? That gold colour just "shouts" at me ever time I open the bonnet.

On a '61 the water pump would have been cast iron and painted as well.

Not just on a '61, my '63 also has a cast iron pump which is painted

The water pump was cast iron & painted up until the mid 1970's.
