Some of these listed for sale recently on the forum. What (if anything?) is special about these headlamps? They apparently sold and at what looks to me rather a lot of folding stuff????? :?

They were rather special. I think Kay Drury of MiniWorld has them on her Mk2. I remember them being used by the Ford Works team on dare I say it, Escorts, in the late 1960's. They have a small hi intensity bulb reflector at the bottom of the 7" lamp. Maybe it had something to do with the regs at the time which limited the number of forward facing lamps. I think Ford was also supported by Cibie at one point.

I think the twin reflector was to do with the heat output when relayed to use dip and main beam together bringing the silver off the reflector, so two bulbs spaced apart. I had them on my Mk 3 in 1971.

Biodes are very nice lights but the price was pushed up by the Works Escort boys, not "really" a Mini thing.

But as I say, very nice.

Bi Iodes were fitted on the Citroen DS too. You can easily find a pair for 150/200€ here, in France.
