Original Dynamo bracket vs A+ Alternator bracket...

Are they the same?

no

the bolt holes in an a plus block are in a different place, so if you wish to fit a dynamo to it you have to make your own bracket - as no such factory bracket exists

As I recall, the brackets are the same. It's the location that is different.

how can the brackets be the same

an a plus engine was never offered with a dynamo?

you have to cut and weld a bracket it to adapt it to a a plus block

The early engines had a dynamo and used a short bracket.

When the pre A+ engines were fitted with alternators, from
about 1973, the same mounting bosses on the block were used
but as the alternators were much shorter, a revised bracket was
required. At the time, it was far easier to create a "wider"
bracket than to re-cast the block, just for the purposes of
accommodating the revised generator.

When the A+ was designed, Leyland had the opportunity to move
the mounting bosses on the block to a position which was more
suited to the alternators size. This only needed a short bracket
again, one which to me looks remarkably similar to the original
dynamo brackets...

... Hence the question.

Yes, the bosses that the brackets bolt to were moved on the A+,
so the brackets can be the same, or at least very similar. It would be
interesting to get confirmation, either way...

Rich, I am not interested in trying to fit a dynamo to a later engine, I was
just wondering if the oldest and newest brackets were the same....

Did Leyland have a "job-lot" of old dynamo brackets lying around when
they designed the A+?
