so, ive bought another project........

Post by guru_1071 »

im going on a mystery tour tomorrow to collect my new project (as if i dont have enough....!)

really looking forward to it, as its something that popped up and caught my eye, its something that ive always wanted since i started with minis.

its not particually rare, or valuable, indeed it will probably cause serious offence to many people who like mk1's ( :o  :o )

my aim is to collect it, do the bare minimum to get it to a standard where it will mot and i can use it and leave it as that - its a slice of history, a real step back in time and one that you just dont see anymore, ever, mainly due to the rising value of std early mk1's and changing tastes.

indeed, to restore it would be a real shame, it would simply become another mini.

theres no prize provided by pete, or guessing game as to what it is, but in the good humoured spirit of this forum im willing to drop a few hints (not that i expect the same response that mark got with the beautiful speedwell car  )

so,

its got local interest to me

its got rally history

its a 'tc' (theres a bigger joke here, but it would be unfair to share it until i post pictures!)

its very, er, period

in the words of someone i work with '.....what the fu*k is that?....'

im going to go to mini shows and 'joker' people by parking it next to their perfect mark ones - so watch out

oh, and ive absolutly no idea where im going to keep it........... 8-)

will post some photos and await mirth on wednesday!

Ok, I'll get the ball rolling - it's going to be a hustler or some other home brew nightmare that has the festering smell of a damp golf bag which has been in a shed on a hot day.....

They look a bit like the Lyons Town car ('TC')

were they based on a mini floor pan?

even better if it's a 6 wheeler?

Oh, and I hope this isn't keeping you from the GTM? when are we getting an update?

I don't recall the TiCi being a rally car?? I think Stirling Moss was used in the ads for them?

How about a Magenta - they are very awful and I think one was used in the World Cup - but can't think how "TC" might relate to them.

Or how about a Mk1 with one of those funny looking fibreglass fronts on it? One was a Ridgeway Sports and there was another slightly better (or less worse) looking one.

I know what it is, & I think that Rich has undersold it.

Pandoras guess, although wrong was an excellent one. I too would not have been surprised by some type of glass fibre coffin, but amazingly most of Rich's new project is more than capable of rusting.

Scamp moke thing? Or a Nomad similar thing? Or Jimini? Maybe an AF Spyder - like a morgan trike.

I would say :
TC for Town and Country,
and six wheels of course ...
That might be a rally MK1 equipped for small muddy Yorkshire lanes - those beautiful Moors - with twin front wheels,
and some other tweaky stuff ... of the very best taste ... a big weber poping out of that mat black bonnet ...
Maybe even a long wheel base, one of those vans or Countryman that where used for club rallying by youngsters with small budgets in the late sixties ...
Maybe TC for Tweaked Countryman ...
Maybe ...

ok, its at home, safe and sound

i did nearly die trying to drag it on my trailer due to the brakes been solid!

its also a good job that i bothered to take my spare wheel for the trailer as i had to fit that just to get it rolling! ;)

i can confirm that its not vile kit car - even i wouldnt stoop as low as a tici - please! allow me some dignity!

it does have glass fibre content (indeed, after a bit of poking, possibly a little bit too much!)

its not a marina - but, again, interestingly, it does have a great conection with the marina, amongst other cars!

oh, and its the ideal car for a fool as it was first registered on april the 1st! :geek:

oh, and t-cutting it hasnt improved the paint!

oddly, the chassis number starts with a 'h' - god knows why, but this is what it says on the original green log book - will check and see what the chassis number says!

ive taken some pictures, but ive not got the cord for my camera!

door handles, I assume. :D

Is it a Davrian Mk7? (that's not a kit car in my book, but as it's a GRP monocoque, it can't be that.....)

another GTM?

so it must be some sort of conversion on a Mk1 Mini. And Mark said before that Pandora was close with the Hustler - but its not a kit car??? Mmmmm???

Pan you are correct with door handles, but you need to think more laterally. Remember it's Rich that we are trying to think like here, never easy for us mere mortals
