Which CV Joints??

Evening all,

I wondered if someone could confirm which CV joints I need...

In a nutshell i'm going to be running a 998 Cooper engine and using the original driveshafts with the maltese cross/rubber type couplings. When it comes to brakes I want to run a 7.5" Cooper S setup.

Now, how to connect all of this is my problem! The 998 Cooper would've used the smaller CV joint (shared with drum brakes I think?) but am I right in thinking I would require the other larger type of CV joint (1275/GT/1984 onwards) because of the drive flanges on the 7.5" brake setup? I wasn't sure if the female spline in the bigger CV joints would take the splined male ends of my driveshafts (maltese cross type).

Are the splines on the ends of mini drive shafts all the same so technically they'd fit into to either CV joint?

I hope that makes sense and I hope I haven't picked a driveshaft/brake combo that won't work!

Thanks,

Alex

Yes, no problem, the larger CV joint will fit the drum/Cooper typed driveshafts.

I've got this set up on my 998 Cooper.

You will need to use the 8.4 Cv joints

Nearly all CVs will fit just about all drive shafts, the only exception being the very early 850's.

You'll need uprights (hubs) as well.

To clarify, all disk braked models use the same swivel hubs so if you have 998 Cooper ones they will be fine.
