Wiper Wheel box

Greetings from Aus

OK this is driving me nuts. I have what is essentially a MK1 from Australia, currently in the process of stripping it down for repair repaint. the issue is the wheel box for the wiper, the scuttle has the depressions around the wheel box. i have tried every angle, and short of using a pry bar, have exhausted myself trying to remove them.

are there any tricks? how should I angle the spline so it clears the scuttle? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Al.

Have you loosened them off the tubes? they should come out with a wiggle? it's puting them back in without damaging the new paint that I find a pain

I agree with Minimans.

If the OZ cars are the same as those built in the U.K., you need to remove the rack tube from the wiper motor after which removing the nuts on the top side of the scuttle. With those nuts removed and rack tube free of the motor you should be able to push the wheelboxes down through their holes. To gain even more freedom of parts you could remove the rack tube from each wheel box by undoing the two clamping nuts and plate on the bottom of each wheel box.

If you have the metal (not plastic) guide bosses on the top side of the scuttle, the wheelboxes may be corroded to the metal bosses. If that is the situation you may have to soak the parts in penetrating oil for a while to help get these apart.
