Timing chain cover and back plate... in situ?

How do gents

After managing the pedal swap easy enough I wondered if I can swap the timing chain cover and the back plate in situ? I am plagued with a leaky cover so want to fit new stuff. Will I have to drop the oil etc?

Pop the N/S driveshaft and disconnect the engine mounts. Then jack the engine up slightly, this is just to make access easier. Your gonna have the same amount of oil spillage, whether you drop it or not. As the bit thats in the timing chain cover will still be there anyway. If it's new oil I wouldn't bother, just make sure every things nice and clean around that end of the engine.

Is it the cover or the plate that's leaking? Without appreciating there's a difference, I once put and A plate on an A+ block and there was an oil leak at the bottom front. Also, the leak might just be the oil seal on the cover.

Or somebody put the wrong bolts in the timing cover lower holes????

The back plate was put on by the engine builder who I am confident fitted it correctly. The seal is also new and was fitted correctly and square. I've bought one of the billet ones to do away with the flimsy cover as it also has a built in crank sensor bracket.

It isn't a bad leak, it is just bothering me that it leaks! I want it right...

What I will have to do is take off the gears off the cam etc and remove the back plate, then refit it all. I'm not sure if I'll have time before the track day but ideally I wanted it sorting for then.
