Hi all, someone knows what kind of modification we have to done to passed for vertical position to angle position?
not the floater but for the fuel pick up arm and the correct position about the 3 fuel discharge orifices?

I have a reece carb as well, although not got around to fitting it to my engine yet.
When I looked into these carbs a while ago, a lot of suggestions involved Clive Trickey books for setup and modification. If you haven't got one of these books yet, definitely worth a wanted ad on the forum...

In the 1970s I tried two different Reece Fish carbs, both 11/4", one semi down draughrt and one vertical. The down draught I used with modified solex manifol from I think an A30/35, the other bolted staight on to a mini manifold. So having played with both types I would suggest that converting one to the other would not be easy because of the need to accurately reposition the fuel pickup arm relative to the drilled throttle spindle. However I do seem to remeber, in the mists of time, that there were some later models produced that could be adjusted to suit the angle of the carb/ float chamber. So I would say get a model that is suited to the angle of the manifold OR use a good SU !

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would choose to use one of those hateful carbs.

OK, CT loved them, but I bet he was paid by the manufacturer.

The range of adjustment is simply useless for a road car, if it's right at the bottom, it's lean at the top & vice versa. This is inherent in the carb design & in most cases can't be tuned out.

They were OK for a racing application where full chat is all that counts, this however is not the case in most road going applications.

Is anyone actually using one of these carbs & happy with the application?

I would confirm Mark's comments that it was difficult to get the mixture ideal across the range and it felt very 'harsh' compaired to an SU. Only advantage was that you didn.t need different needles to adjust mixture BUT ideally need a vacuum gauge.
