Quick early Mk1 questions. (1960 or not)

Post by In the shed »

What date were rear bin "lights" discontinued?

When were black "early" door kick plates discontinued.

I have a very early Mk1 which I am selling and the chap is not convinced it is as early as I say it is. (60). Since it's an ex-racer, it is pretty much a bare shell. Are there any markings or likely things which could date it (I do not have the V5)

Both ran until 61.

Look on the 59 register website variations pages. There is a page on body shell numbers. There will be a chassis number or body number on the shell somewhere.

Does it have recessed screens? Oct 60 onwards

If flat screen surrounds does it have drip rails? May 60 onwards

If it has recessed screens does it have the welded seat mounts? Upto Jan (ish) 61.

If its a really early shell, the front and rear window apertures will be flat and not recessed. It will have flat sills - if they've not been replaced. It could still have the larger footwell recesses - depending how early it was built.

Hope this helps. It looks to be a cracking little car - as does your other one.

Cheers. Tim
