Mk1 Mini Door Latches

Post by mk1mini72 »

Hi everyone, was scrolling through Ebay the other day and came across these internal door locks, but the one you can lock from the inside has a larger latch. In the advert it stated that they were for a 1959 car! Could anyone tell me whether this is true, as i have a pair sat in the Garage...

And you can tell they were from an Austin, because they are black, whereas the Morris ones were body coloured.

I guess not necessarily 59's, I mean those kind of rounded locks were also fitted to 1960 minis, or at least thru half that year

And if you turn them over you will find the date stamped into the metal.

Interesting comment about the colour of the latches, the ones on my '65 built Morris S are black, did they drop the body colour or have mine been replaced in the past?

No, all Coopers had black painted latch casings, probably all Longbridge built Minis?

My '64 Morris Traveller had black locks when I got it originally. I'm pretty sure they were the original ones as the whole car was original and unmolested. Cowley built car as well.

I once had a very original one owner - 1961 Austin Mk1 in Speedwell Blue. That had colour coded door mechanisms.

Smashing car - took it to Monte Carlo on the French inter-rail service for the Grand Prix and then followed some rally notes that Paul Easter gave me up over the Alps.

Definitely one I regret selling!
