MK1 Cooper vs cooper S wiring loom, HELP HELP

I have a 1960 MK1 with a 3 gauge pod, ALT, and i was told to order the 5L672 from mini spares.
When i got the loom it looked wrong and i just found out the 5L672 is for a cooper S (the voltage regulator is mounted on the bulkhead for room for the brake booster) That's no big deal as its a rally car and i could up grade my brakes to power if i need to. But do you know what else might be different between the 2 looms?
Will the lights just plug right in (for either loom, or both)? i think i have three wires for each light.
I feel stupid for asking but how do i plug in the rear loom to the front ? two years ago when i took the old loom out i swear it ran through a small hole by the wiper motor and it ran along the roof on the left hand side (this is a left hand drive). the rear loom has bullet connectors on the loom. the front loom has spade connectors, see pics. I think I am holding the wrong group of wires in the pic (for the front) - but that is just how it laid out when I tried to position it.
Please Help
P.S I have a set of paddy hopkirk bucket seats on USA E-Bay if any one is interested.
Thanks

I think you're trying to match up the wrong set of connectors on the main loom. There should be a bunch of wires with the same set of colours as on the rear loom, with bullet connectors. Then you'll need some joiners to connect them. Like these:
Single
Double
I just received a new loom for my Traveller from Autosparks. Its a thing of beauty - would be better if I had stressed that I have an
internal tank Traveller.

O.K that makes more sense. Do you know if the looms are the same for right hand & left hand drive cars?
The way that bunch of wires is wrapped, it laid to the opposite side of the car. But when I bent it to the left side of the car, it makes sense to what you said.
Can you tell me what the little fuse box controls? Do these 3 green wires have anything to do with that? You can see the small fuse box in the other pic.
Thanks for your help.

I don't think there's much need for a left hand drive loom to be any different to a RHD one, everything is pretty much symmetrical, or in the same place anyway.
The fuse box tucked up in the corner has a bunch of brown and white wires go to it, as well as a variety of coloured ones on the other side. It looks as though you need to pull a little more of the loom through towards the front of the car. You really need to get a wiring diagram, which will explain which colours need to go where.
The green with purple trace and a plain green should go straight down to the brake light switch on the subframe, but they look a bit short, what's the bundle that goes down? I'm not sure what the other green one is, does it have a coloured trace?
It looks like you have a pair of relays on the firewall . They aren't standard so your loom probably won't connect to them at all.

Thanks Tim,
Yes i have 2 greens you can not see them in the pic, That go's down to the brake switch.
The rear loom is pulled through the side window just to see what i have. LOL
I do have a 850 wiring diagram (hope the color code is the same as a cooper-s, I'm just trying to find out some info before i stick tape all over it and cut it to go around my weber box just in case i have to send it back.
I have a separate loom i made for my cibie spots and air horn that's what them 6RA's are for.
Thanks for putting me on the right path.

Dave, your photo's are very 'close cropped' makes it difficult to see what's going on, I think your weber box may have closed off the main hole for the wiring loom, a great big bunch go down into the interior via the base of the speedo cowl.
I agree with Tim, you need a few wiring diagrams, got a Haynes manual? Older ones are better....
Nice looking car and Orange paint!

I agree a photo taken showing a more "overall" view of the loom & the engine bay would be very helpful indeed, it would be easy to label this for your information.
As Graham suggests below, the hole that allows all the instrument wiring to pass into the driver compartment has been lost by the fitting of the Weber box. You will need to find an alternative route to get these wires to the inside, this will almost certainly involve lengthening them.
Apart from the issue with the placement of the regulator I cannot think of any major change between a Cooper & S loom.
Good luck,
Mark F

The green, green/purple, and green/brown all go to the flasher unit which is mounted to the bulkhead brace where the black earth is.

Did you say right at the top that the loom is for a car with an alternator? No point in fitting the voltage control box then, is there?

I'm in a similar position, I've got am alternator mk1 S loom for my rebuild and I think I've pretty much got it sussed, as Abri says with an alternator theres no need for the voltage regulator? my loom has no connections for it.
heres the bit where it goes through the bulkhead normally, one of the things I haven't sussed yet is the red cable shown, I'm thinking heater??
edited to add - for the lights - the three wires you have are for the indicators if its the same loom I have, the actual wires that go to the lights are separate.
http://minispares.com/product/Classic/BAU2111.aspx
you'll need a load of single bullet connectors to join the bits up as has already been said.

Aah yes, I'd missed the fact that they are light green and purple and light green. Dark green and purple is for brake lights.

Thanks guys for all of your help.
Mark - you answered my question about the harness (cooper vs s), thank you for confirming that.
My next stupid question was also answered (it was about whether or not I needed the voltage regulator) - thanks for that!
Mark, I think I finally have the harness in the right location (see pics).
I wanted going to ask what the small little fuse box controls. There is a brown wire, a white wire & a double white that are close to it.
Does anyone know what the purple wire on the back harness goes to, it pokes through the fire wall (if it is supposed to)?
There is another purple wire attached to the rear loom, is that for a courtesy light?
The diagram I have is for a 850 Mini, I will download the one for the cooper - thanks for the advise.
If this is correct, I can now extend my wires around my Weber box to get inside.
Thanks again for all of the help! I know some of these questions are kinda silly

The only purple in the loom should be the feed from the fuse box to the int light with the purple/white being the grounds to the door switches.
Richspec the red goes to terminal 7 on the light switch and the red/white to the ignition switch.

This is as good as I can do off the top of my head, a few loose ends, but the main groups have been indicated.
Hope this helps,

Those red wires go to the little switch that fits into the hole on the black oval speedo binnacle to turn the instrument lights on and off. (this applies to the S loom and I guess others that have that little switch)
Hope this helps as well

Thanks, I'll check that I've not missed any, I thought I had all the connections on the switches, obviously not! I'd worked out the red and white is all panel light related, I don't have the little switch in my later binnacle.
Dave - the wiring diagram will tell you which wires go to which terminals on the little fuse box, also the wires under your rear window - these are the ones for your fuelling, eg,sender, fuel pump etc.
You also mentioned the 'spare' purple and whites, I have them as well, there's a joiner block above the drivers door (on yours) and a trailing one that's between the hole in the 'a' pillar and where the loom passes through the bulkhead, I've just taped it up as not using door switches.

Guys Thank you so much.
Mark you made it real easy for me, Thanks.
Did not have to cut no wire's because of the weber box, I ended up running the loom the other side of the bulk head in side the car.
Thanks
