Newton commercial offer a one piece MK1 headling which they list as being for the Australian cars. Can anyone show me what this looks like in place and how it is installed?

Am I getting the wrong end of this? Were Australian market Mk1s fitted with a headling like a UK Mk3?

Our early cars (850's) were fitted with the two piece ones, I'm fairly sure same as UK. They then changed over to the one piece, which we had up until the end (in 78), about 64 - 65. I doubt these would be the same as any UK ones as they went to a wider rear window in the UK with the MKII, so the C Pillar pieces are different sizes and I seem to recall fit differently too.

Chris, the Mk1 Cooper S came out in 1965 here in Aus. It did have a one piece headlining, supported by 11 bars threaded through pockets sewn into the lining. The edges were glued under and around the window seals
All Mini's from 65 on shared this type of lining, but some different vinyl patterns.

Ah - thanks guys. All clear now. I did wonder if a one piece headlining was used that incorporated bows but left the painted rail visible as per the two part design.
My old headlining won't fit anymore due to a modified roof. The skin is closer to the rail which is slightly kicked up at the front corners - raked screen. I don't like not using a headlining and am not keen on just glueing fabric to the roof skin. I want to keep the painted rail visible so that rules out pulling the lining out through the window apertures. So it looks like I will need to fabricate a new frame. One piece would be good. Any bright ideas?

Get someone else to do it? I reckon trying to make a one piece headlining frame that leaves the painted rail exposed would be a fast ticket to the madhouse. Its tricky enough to fit an original two piece one and have it looking really good, without having to start from scratch!

Didn't later Aussie minis have the headlining glued to the inside of the roof skin, with a layer of insulation in between? It might not look as nice as one stretched over a frame, but would be a lot easier.

I will give it a go and if it all goes wrong at the end of the day I can just leave it out.
