Few questions from an Aus member

Hi, I am starting my project soon (in south aus) ad I have a couple of q's :)

I have what I believe to be a long body 4080 su, is is worth rebuilding (approx 90 aud for a kit) or stick with the mech pump?

I have some p700 headlight buckets, I'm assuming I will need a relay to use them safely, worth it over sealed beams?

And finally has anyone here attempted to run an a-series on e85?

Thanks for any guidance, I will put a build thread up soon but be aware, progress may be slow!

hi there...electric SU pumps are expensive but can be reliable. If you're not a purist there are solenoid types like 'facet' etc but these make a rattle all the time. Electric in my opinion will serve better than mechanical especially on hot days.
Being a long body means its a high pressure pump and you can roughly date it by whether it has a 2Ba or 4Ba earth screw thread. 4Ba being the later type with the valve housing using banjo connections...aka MGB type.
Coopers used short HP pumps with 4Ba earth connection threads and clamped plastic nozzles for the hoses.

A relay will always improve head lighting so unless again your are a purist...wire the headlamps with a relay.

I cant comment on e85 in a mini but i have read it causes some minor problems with fuel injection sensors etc in japenese stuff.
cheers Michael.

Thanks for the reply! Not really a purist, but the car is going to look period.

It started life mist green but I'm thinking of a colour like cadet blue as it was offered in the same year. Looks solid but who knows, thinking of unpicking the sills before having it blasted as the flitch has rotted through at some point allowing water into the cavity.
