I have just about completed my project and I have a piece of braided petrol pipe left over about 30cm's long, should this go into the carb? Also can anyone see anything that isn't right in the picture of my engine? Thanks for you help?

You have made a cracking job and have a very original car to be really proud of. The mini will attract interest wherever it goes! Hopefully one day VFF 684 will get to the same stage!

thats SOME engine bay very nice.

only thing I can see, is that you havent fitted the chassi plate yet.

Regarding braided petrol hose = yes the original hose from pipe to carburator is braided.

i don't see why you could not use it if it fits

the only thing i can see that could be missing is the rubber buttons on the slam panel for the bonnet to sit on . but other than that it looks very original, and well finished

That engine bay looks great, an a big improvement from when I had it. I like that you have got an original rad and have gotten rid of that red painted coil.

If you want a chassis plate with the correct rear stamped numbers then contact Tim Harber at Mini Mail http://www.minimail.co.uk/ I seem to remember that the replacement one on the car had the numbers incorrectly stamped from the front. The original corroded one was affixed to the rear cover of the owners hand book.

I look forward to seeing the old car again in the summer.

Thanks Stuart, I have ordered an exact copy of the chassis plate that is stuck into the back of the book, the one that was on the car was a later type i think. The coil is the same one but I wire brushed it then used wet and dry to get rid of the red paint and leave a smooth finish. I hope you are happy with the whole car? I am trying hard to make it as close to original as possible.

Thanks for the "stopped" photo. I was looking for two things. Metal fan? Check. Fan on the right way 'round? Can't tell, but based on the rest of the detail work done, it's unlikely to be on backwards.

i am also trying to get my engine bay up to scratch (Feb '62 Morris)

can anyone help with a few questions please?

With the braided petrol pipe from the carb, how does it join the metal petrol pipe at this bulkhead bracket?



and is it a similar connection at the petrol pump end?

Should the bulkhead bracket be body colour or black?

excuse the questions, but at the moment I've got a rubber hose direct from carb to petrol pump, so have got nothing of reference to follow

also, I've seen mini spares do the gasket for between these bulkhead plates





do i need 2 gaskets?

1 between the plates and 1 between plate and bulkhead, or just one gasket?

About youre question.. The waterpump/ thermostat housing should be green, and there's a metal rivet in the
Center of the original oilfiller cap.

But Nice job!
