Fuel Pump Full of Water

Hi All,

While going through the electrics on my S the other day I stumbled on a completely unrelated problem. Last time I drove it in the wet (shock horror!) the fuel pump must have completely filled up with water in the electrical side. No real problem, I stripped it and rebuilt it but I was wondering on the most likely cause as I definitely didn't submerge it completely.

It's a standard AUF214 mounted on the standard bracket. It obviously must have come through one of the breathers, the one on the metal body has a short open pipe on it but the one on the plastic cap doesn't. Has this happened to other people?

I've put another short open pipe on the cap end but I was hoping for a more concrete reason as to why it filled up so that I would have more confidence in it not happening next time!

The inlet breather should go up into the boot area to keep it dry & out of harms way.

The Electrical section of the pump should also be sealed with PVC tape.

Thanks Mark

Right that makes sense, presumably the inlet breather is the one into the plastic cap?
