He's a dealer ? That's what they do buy and sell cars for a profit, I'm sure they would have some movement on price for a quick sale :D

In any case he didn't buy it from Bonhams ;)

Here's the original thread :

It was reshelled in 1972 not 1968 by the way , wonder why he didn't use a Mk3 ? Not a nice car is it by any stretch but an interesting story, whether it's £38K's worth of interesting only time will tell !

He bought a brand new mk2 shell in 1968 then set about stiffening it, having it painted etc.
He then re-built the car into the new shell in 1972.

Thats a big percentage mark up even for a dealer. Its a shabby car but with a valuable history. Id say its worth what it went for at auction imo.

I'm pretty sure the Mk2 FE number dated to 1972 as posted by the "FE Meister" , who's rarely wrong .I've got a photo of it taken in August '70 and it was still a tidy looking Mk1 then . (posted on previous thread).

Good luck to him, once hes paid tax etc etc dropped price to sell etc he may not make that much. he bought a car from me and all i can say is it was the easiest sale ever! rang me,didn't haggle and turned up on time.

He doesn't have the mark up everyone on here is assuming either, i was the buyer of the Moulton cooper s off Bonhams i then sold it to him shortly after for quite a bit more.
Again no messing and paid me straight away, I don't think he's far off the mark at the price he's asking either, the actual paperwork/history that's with it is very impressive.

I still think that this is one of the most interesting & "original" Minis currently offered for sale anywhere, the history is absolutely unbeatable & undeniable.

I was also tickled to see a nice link to the MK1 Performance Conversions Downton section as well as for some inexplicable reason a link to a Minimag article about some of my cars.

I have mailed them to ask if I can add the very nice Downton paperwork to the Downton archive, we will see what transpires.

Truth be told I'm not slating the bloke, just imagined it came direct from the auction. My mistake. It is funny how interesting cars change hands very quickly which in turn ups their value. I own a Clio V6, the rare one with the engine in the back, and last year a friend of mine offered me his. I knew it was worth a lot of money and offered him what ever he wanted. He wanted the lowly sum of £9000 for it. This car was Tom Walkinshaws own car and the chassis numberwas TOM000001! Trying to get the money together while working away proved a nightmare so I just missed out by a day or so. It changed hands 6 times in 6 days and was shipped to Hong Kong for over £60k.........I'm gutted to this day.

I have just added a selection of the original paperwork for the Moulton Mini to the Downton section of the main site. I would like to sincerely thank the current owners who are undoubtedly real Mini enthusiasts.

Opinions about dealers or the state of the car aside that's a really interesting set of documents Mark, Moulton didn't seem too impressed with his 'squeeky' Restall did he ? Nor the door gapping and associated rattle on his brand new car. Great addition to the site and funnily enough I know of a similar set of Downton paperwork for another interesting car which I'll ask about and see if it can also be added.

Agreed, the set of letters is absolutely brilliant! A real insight into the minds of some of the people who made the mini what it was.
