Austin Se7en or Morris Minor for a cooper MK1
Happy NYear at all members on this forum !!!
Few days ago I read that the Cooper MK1 was created in 1961 but under two labels
- Austin Se7en
- Morris Minor
Collectors have a preference ?
The value changes ?
Always a 998cc or the Mini Cooper MK1 was equiped with a 997cc too ?

Hi Myllux, I'll have a go at answering your questions.
You are getting confused with the different model names. The Austin Se7en and Morris Mini Minor were the first Minis, released in 1959. They had the basic 848cc engine. In September 1961 the Coopers were launched, also with both Austin and Morris versions. They were badged "Austin Cooper" and "Morris Cooper". They originally had 997cc engines, the 998cc engine wasn't used until January 1964.
In the UK/Europe I don't think there is much difference in price/value between marques. In Australia all our Minis were badged Morris, so Austins (which came in as private imports) are much rarer and are worth a little more.

Note: The very early Austin Cooper was officially launched as the 'Austin Seven Cooper' as the word Mini was only used on 'Morris Mini Cooper' versions at the time.

I wasn't sure about that. Were they badged as Austin Seven Cooper on the boot lid or just Austin Cooper? I think the Morris was just Morris Cooper, not Morris Mini Cooper on the boot lid, but may be wrong.
The 850 changed from Austin Se7en to Austin Mini in January 1962, so presumably the cooper did too at the same time.

Mab is correct. While the models were referred to as Austin Seven Cooper & Morris Mini Cooper in the brochures they were always Austin Cooper & Morris Cooper on the car it's self.

I don't think any UK Mk1 Minis were badged like that. The Coopers didn't have the engine capacity shown. Maybe the badges have been changed - or you might have an export or overseas built model.

Not until the Mk2 Cooper and S which had 1000 and 1275 badges respectively.The Coopers didn't have the engine capacity shown.

The 1000 badge seems to be an aftermarket badge or a specific badge for the italian model.
The car looks very original (choke cable on the right is correct, even for a LHD), but should be a 998 car and not a 997 as advertised in the sale section. The hydrolastic suspension gives it away quickly, but it has also lots of other post September 64 features, when the 997 was no longer in production or had such features. Good luck with the sale
