'61 clipper blue trim spec.

I'm hopefully close to putting back together my '61 morris mini minor and would like some info on the correct trim that should be fitted. As with many mini's through the years tastes change and as so the interior trim in my car as been "updated" to a more '70s black vinyl

I'm putting the car back to the correct period trim but need some advise to the correct trim to use. I've seen different trims for clipper blue cars where some have grey fleck door cards but mine doesn't. Was this an option the factory offered? The front door card I have is plain (as in the photo) but I've also seen them with a horizontal swage again was this an option? Is the correct colour for this door card powder blue?
The other items that I need to source, as my car has been fitted with the later three dial binnacle, is the white single dial dash surounds and lower dash rail cover. Is there a correct name for the colour of these items?
I would be very happy for any info on the correct trim fitted to my car, be it the correct names of the colours or the options available at the time.
Thanks Mark.

Hi Mark,
As far as I am aware (but stand to be corrected) a clipper blue car would have had plain blue door cards, it is a Morris thing, as are body-coloured painted interior door locks which are correct. The photos you show are of a very original and correct looking car. If I read your post correctly you say you also need a lower dash-rail cover. A cover would be incorrect on your car as this was introduced on both the Super and Cooper in September '61 for those models only but carried over to the SDL in October '62.

Hi Mark,
I'd agree with Garry.
My OEW Nov 60 Morris has plain Cherry Red door cards and plain grey dash trims and liner.
I bought my replacement grey dash cards and liner from the BMC (?) company in Wales some years ago now. Shame they no longer do the stuff for Minis as it was far more accurate than Newton, at the time. However, Newton may offer a more accurate trim nowadays.
The interior shown looks spot on to me.

Thanks for your posts. I'm very lucky in the fact that the car in the photos is also a clipper blue morris mini minor that was actually sold three weeks after mine from exactly the same garage! As you say it is very original so I'm using it as reference. I'm not the owner of that car but do hope to reunite the two later in the year! As for the colour of the door cards are they powder blue? I also incorrectly stated "lower dash rail cover" as you are completely correct that the dash rail itself is the body colour. What I meant was the dial surrounds and shelf cover, the piece that the cupcake is sat on !! I'm not aware that newton sale these but I've e-mailed them to find out. As my car is being re-sprayed I would like to try and source original trim parts so the car doesn't look to new although this will not be easy on a complete rebuild car.

That's quite a coincidence with the two cars being from the same garage so close together. Are the reg. numbers similar ?
I might have the original lower dash liner from my car in the garage but only might. I'll endeavour to have a look over the weekend and let you know. My garage has been used as a store whilst having major house alterations and it's a right mess at the moment
I don't think i had any dash cards with the car, if I did it'll be only one side. Again I'll check.

Also have some correct dash /headlining material on the roll

Hi Andrew, Yeah it is pretty cool that the two cars have that history. They have the same first three letters and the three numbers are around 300 apart! The car that isn't mine is owned by a really nice bloke that still lives in the town the cars were sold in and he actually meet the salesperson from the garage at their local car show a couple of years ago. He showed me a photo he took of the salesperson holding the original bill of sale 50 years later!
I would be very grateful for any interior trim for my car and was more than willing to put up a post in the wanted section but just thought I would ask the questions in this section as to the correct colour specs and regarding the slight differences I had seen in door cards and the like.
I do have the drivers door trim , the passenger door was changed at some point

,so none of that trim. Rear quarters panels, pockets and rear seat is good although the base of the rear seat has a split in it. Front seats are sorted, thanks to Contour51

so really that leaves everything else!
I should point out at this stage that my car will not be going back to completely stock '61 spec but a slightly quicker version

I would still however really like it to look like it would have done internally and externally but for some tastefully, I hope, period additions.
Ian if you were to be selling a complete trim set that would be great. I'll send you a pm so you have my details.
Mark.

Mark,
The only thing I could find is a rear parcel shelf.
Let me know if it's of any interest and I'll clean it up and take some pics.
Sorry I can't help on anything else at the moment.
Sounds like Ian could be your saviour
