I found this is an old issue of Hot Car from August 1972.

What an excellent article!
Any chance of a larger scan of that Rocker Cover?

Here's a scan of the engine picture, unfortunately due to the old dot print style it does not come out very clear. I've tried increasing the DPI on my scanner but that does not help
Stuart
PS Would you be interested in a load of 1970's colour chip charts for the main site?

I wonder if it said "BROADSPEED" or "LANDAR".

You scanner should have a 'Degausse' setting, this will eliminate the pattern caused by the screen clash. You should use this when ever scanning printed material. On some later cheaper scanners it'll probably be called, 'De-screen' which is the same.

That does look the same as my Landar rocker cover... I'll dig it out and check.
What conversions did Landar do as I bought an engine with the cover on and the head is worker and stamped.
What year was they about please.
Regards
George

My scanner's about 10 years old and I'm not sure if it has Degausse. I'll have a look though and thanks for the tip.

The car was offered for sale by mister West a year later and with 7,000 miles on the clock for 860 GBP. If only...

Broadspeed did sell several complete shells off when the GT project got the chop , this one was a Broadspeed roof/tail section however grafted on to his own Mini by the guy in the big cardy, pretty big job for a DIYer !

Mr West shopped for his engine parts at Motoplus (as you can see named on the sticker on his airbox) and it was just down the road for him at Handworth as he lived in Great Barr.
On page 7 of their accesories catalog (on the main site)
http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.u ... ccess7.jpg
It reads; "Landar crackle finished in black with a flip top"
So if the picure was any clearer it would have read "Landar" upside down.
The named stage 2 sprite head is on page 1 of the tuning catalog
http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.u ... equip1.jpg
The 1.5 carbs are on page 2;

As for mr West being the top notch of DIY, if i read the text it doesn't say he mated the roof to the new MK2 shell does it?
From reading it i presume he did buy the complete shell from Broadspeed and finished it to his own liking.

But it's a Mk2 shell jack, as far as I know Broadspeed had stopped converting cars by the end of '66 ? Hence why it's presumed (by me anyway) to be a DIY conversion.

As stated previously on this forum Broadspeed NEVER made an alloy rocker cover for the mini.
The only way you'll see Broadspeed on that cover is by using photoshop

It has always been my understanding that the GTs were built to order only. I was also told by both Ralph Broad & Tony Blore that no shells were sold at the time, they were advertised yes but none sold.
WUX421 was the last ever GT & was made from either a spare back or complete shell supplied by Broadspeed , either way WUX421 was made long after Broadspeed had ceased making the GTs, the HotCar article is from 1972.
WUX421 now sits in my barn at home with EOP88D & 89D.
