I have a real early MK1 1960 Morris.
I think i have the wrong window seals as i cannot get the window to close right. :?
The window has the piano hinges with the small latches.
Anyone have a part # or a pic of a seal
Or maybe i have some other kind of issue.
Thanks

I have not found a repro rubber that fits anywhere near right. If anyone has any suggestions they would be much appreciated.

I need to find two in the very near future.

Are these windows the same as the Oz rear side windows?

Ours fit with a piano hinge (small screws) and then a chrome latch with with 2 medium screws.

An Oz mod often used on that style of window is old door seals - find a good bit but pretty "squashed" and use that - stops you feeling like the latch is going to break when you try to close the window...

Just an Oz bush mechanic thing, ignore if not relevant/appropriate....

cheers

Jacob

Jacob,

I totally agree, a knackered old squashed bit of seal is generally speaking than any of the new alternatives.

Agree with all everyone says but I fitted Minispares repros. They've been on the car a year now and starting to conform. The problem is the lip is too bulky and the edge catches the window frame as it closes in. I keep a putty knife in the car and poke the seal out where it catches, mainly at the rear upper and lower corners. The left one is now OK and the right is only catching at the lower rear corner. The seal also seems too bulky (again caused by the thick lip) in the hinge area and loads the window backwards.

Regards
Al

people always mention that the repro seals are too tight and cause the windows to pop open or damage the frames.

but how many people cut the seals around the window frames as per factory?

I beg to differ. Yours have been cut, but I can show you a few sets that haven't.

hmm

both sides had been cut, and they are original seals,

i wonder if it was something that was done by dealers then?

To answer Jacob's question, yes, the OZ and English Mk I piano hinge rear windows are the same.

While I think about it, my panic on this score is over, I found 2 very good second hand ones in the loft when I was having a hunt around up they last weekend.

I'm currently installing my side windows and seals, and have come across this same issue. The replacement seals I have are far too fat. Or have I simply ordered the wrong seals (there didn't seem to be any other option!)?

Has anyone used some sort of foam tape folded around the edge of the window frame, or a more basic u-shaped thin rubber seal? These old piano hinged windows seem to need only a thin seal between the window frame and metal lip on the body.

I recently replaced these rubbers on my car with new ones from Minispares and can't fault the new rubbers at all. The windows shut well first time and the fit is first class. The profile is quite different to those shown in the photo above :?

Thanks OEW! I might have to order another set from MSpares and see. Do you have a part # for the ones you used?

Cheers,
W

Mark, I am using the latest type quarter light seal and it seems Ok without cutting the piano hinge portion!
The seal size fits the frame well, the lip can be squeeze quite hard, does not force the window too much, post you some photos later!
Problem is the door seals now!
