Hi all

I am about to buy an exhaust system for VFF. The engine is 1293 with the standard manifold not 3 into 1 and i want a centre exit exhaust as per EJB. Im going for a single box system so what parts and accessories will i need as the car still has the original floor start set up.

Thanks

Tim

This doesn't answer your question directly, but it's a data-poi t worth sharing, I believe. I just fitted a single-box RC-40 (left side exit) to my '61 with a 1275, a Maniflow Cooper Freeflow manifold, rod-change shifter, and a floor-mounted starter button, and it all fit just fine.

I had people tell me that the manifold was a 'small bore' manifold, and would be too short for the 1275. I had people tell me there wasn't enough room for the shifter, exhaust, and button.

Maybe I'm just exceptionally lucky....

Push button starts are better left rerouted IMO.

There (I forget exactly what it looks like now) are live elements which a larger pipe can short out. One day mine moved and shorted out and boiled the battery. It was quite frightening.

I think it is good form to earth a solenoid via the switch, rather than run the gauntlet. It really is tight in there. Be careful.

been there done that
i"d just finished chopping up the maniflow Y piece that came with my 8 port manifold so it actually pointed down the tunnel :( , i'd pushed the rear section on and was wriggling it into position when we saw some sparks and smoke
had to do more choppage and re welding to get it by without touching!

many thanks for your comments guys! It seems that the little floor start causes all sorts of issues! I think it will have to be the works style upswept exhaust....it looks fantastic! I will go for a 3 into 1 down pipe and modify as required.

Cheers

Tim
