What does "10CR 423" stand for, stamped on the front of the box, besides that it is c/r?

I have no idea. I'd like to know. I have a 1071 that's lost it's 190. I have plenty of the 333s (say a couple) when it comes to three synchros that's plenty. If you have a case I'm looking. I also have a child that needs to go to college. Wait my wife won't let me pay what it's worth. Do they have a real value? I'd love to find a broken case and cut the casting number out weld it into a 4 synchro and smile. Steve (CTR)

The first oart of the number indicates the engine size, this would be off a 1071. Then the CR stands for the ratio the later part of the number is the production number. Haven't been able to find out if it ties in with body or engine numbers just yet.

I generally agree. These codes were used when someone opted for a non standard set of gear ratios in the factory. The last 3 numbers on the box would usually match the last 3 numbers of the chassis / VIN number so the factory could keep track that the correct parts were being used as the car was built up.
MOST S's never had these as they were rarely ordered with C/R gearkits.

Okay. But they don't match the last three digits in the chassis,or body number and still this box is original fitment to my 1071 S, so I'm still hoping some body knows what they stand for. Thanx anyway
