Over the next few weeks I'm looking to fit the doors and glass to my newly painted shell. I've never fitted or rebuild early doors, I'm assuming its a straight forward job but thought I'd ask if you guys had any tips.

Should I fit the doors to the shell first without the glass etc. to keep the weight down, or is it easier to position the doors at their full weight? I seem to remember Mark telling me to slide the door glass in in one go with the bottom chrome trim?

Yes fit the doors first then fit the whole glass assembly on the chrome channel into the door in one go slotting the glass up into the upper channel as you go (can be done on your tod but better with an extra pair of hands). Seal under the chrome before fitting including the 'bridges' which should be marked (bits of masking tape) prior to fitting so you can find 'em with the self tappers once in place.

Bridges ????

Pete is saying look at the top of the door (top of door skin area not top of frame ) at the point the chrome sliding glass channel sits on top of the door , you will find a series of rectangular cut outs along the door top , the solid parts between each cut out is what Pete is calling the bridges .
You need to mark these "bridges" with a bit of masking tape stuck to side of the door , inner side of door not outer skin because when you have put the chrome slider base and sliding channel in you will not see these . Why , because you need to drill into these "bridges" and make a hole to put the screws in that retain the whole glass and sliding channel assembly .

I have just looked at my Mk I doors in my shed and got it....
I have just fitted sliding windows to my Mk III doors, they are completeley closed, without any holes.
I did it as descriped and it worked well, without a helping hand.

Thanks all! I knew it was worth asking.

Fitted the doors yesterday and did a dummy run with the glass before it got dark.

Where do you guys use the sealer? Does it just run along the edge on the inside of the door between the door and the s/steel trim, or do you also use some between the black runner strip and the door facing outwards? Or should I be using it everywhere between the black runner, s/steel trim and door but avoiding the drain holes?

I've also found a strip of thin flat rubber about 30cm long and 3cm wide in the bag of stuff from the doors, but I can't remember where it came from or needs to go, any ideas?
