Must be a typo, it's a '68 Mk2.

I agree that Clubman Estate was cheap for a low miles car. I expected it to get near to £4000. No Doubt it will be cleaned up and appear on a forecourt at £6995.

the blue mk1 mini and the woody where nice solid projects, but once commission and the vat on that was worked out they where both nearly 2 grand a pop

the clubaman estate did look cheap, but it was a boring orange mini clubman estate at the end of the day

the mk2 cooper s was just a 'meh' car, it was a older restoration that was showing its age in the paint and the general fit and finish - that was reflected in the bidding and the final price

That will be very "period" and collectable like surf blue one day. :D

The mk2 cooper S, I thought from the pictures it would be as you described and the wheels didn't help. That said I'm surprised it made what it did. ( I'm not complaining, pleasantly surprised ) :)

I would happily give a boring orange clubman estate in that condition a home!

It hasn't taken long for the woody to gain a couple of wings

Quite agree, and the same car is also listed on an ebay auction (currently £9,750) ......so possibly a bargain in the making?
We'll see. Actually the seller, sussexsportscars has quite a bit of stock on ebay just now.

that does look a good project. The seller seems to acquire a good number of interesting Minis doesn't he but I wonder if there'd be much profit left in it by the time you'd restored it and paid a dealer's profit on top of the auction price in the first place?

It's quite a good starting point but there's still a lot of time & money to be spent.

Did you go to the sale Rich? Anything interesting non mini?

You'd think the seller on ebay would at least take the plates off for the photo's.

I'd noticed that too. They're both in the same area too aren't they? There certainly can't be many virgin projects left for sale in that part of the country! It was the same seller who had a very rusty 1960 saloon for sale recently on ebay which I'd previously spotted at a Brightwells auction. Good luck to him in a way though, I personally wouldn't have paid even the price Brightwells got for that one!

The guy certainly gets himself around and I say good luck to him. If he can be bothered to make the effort and risk buying the cars there is no shame in him turning a profit. He does have some really interesting metal.

I suppose they are working on the theory that if they buy them all they will be eventually be able to manipulate the value of projects upwards as 'normal' people see that project cars are all going the above a certain cost on ebay/auctions, I suppose that they will be prepared to win some / loose some once all the commission and transport costs are taken into account, but as long as you are making 'x' amount of money over a spread of cars its probably a decent way to do it, of course, then other advantage is that people see that you always have interesting project cars in stock and will tend to save you as a favourite seller, so you slowly become the first port of call for people wanting projects and eventually people selling projects as well.

if you can survive for a couple of years, eventually you have a decent reputation and a stock of cars and you should be able to make a decent living out of it - don't forget that there is a vast qty of people who will not sell or buy privately and will always rather go to a dealer.

id love to do this, but would end up wanting to keep them all!

I know people who have done exactly this with another make of cars and have been able to make a very decent living from it.

The seller is 'Evosal' off here ! 'Who dares wins Rodney' as they say and you can't really knock it if nobody else buys 'em . I presume most the Minis come from his many wanted ads on Pistonheads, and they obviously work very very well !

Auction wise, it's sometimes the case that cars go for inflated prices at auction due to the bidding fever and the fees but often there's bargains to be had. I see loads of cars that start off at auction, as happened at the H&H auction earlier this year that are snapped up by dealers, usually 'pop up' dealers who just take a punt. A mint Mk3 S went recently for less than £10K which went to such a dealer who flipped it pronto for quite a good profit. Quite often though said dealers will buy 'wrong uns' cos they don't know their onions as has happened with another dealer who bought quite a number of early Minis earlier this year and couldn't shift 'em .
The other factor is that private punters are put off auctions due to the initial £100 'sign on' fee they have to pay just to get in to an H&H auction, leaving the dealers to mop up.

It looks like a nice straight car.

They are commanding silly money, but for that, I want the original axe, not grandad's axe.

£16k is OTT, I'd probably say 8 is more like it, looking at it. But my £8k car is a £1.5k car....still.
