I have got black leads and wcx600 caps on my mk1 at the moment which although look period correct I realise are not so am I correct in thinking
all mk1's used dark green ht leads
pre 67 cars used wc548 and 67 post mk1 onwards used wc200 caps? Same for coopers as well as other models?
the works rally cars used Lodge R90 caps and yellow/black ybs wire.
I have been looking for a while and with the exception of ebay (and the huge huge price) I cannot seem to find anyone who sells the green wire core.
Thanks Dave

Hi
Both black (Ripault's) and green (Lucas) were used depending what they had at the time. If you look in the parts list (3509) it states this. My Cooper S had and has black and so does my 63 traveler.

Black was certainly most common until the mid 60's.
You can get both types of lead from here

It is a pity they do not do green in a wire core which is what is needed if you have HA coil with the screw in acorn connection so I went for black. I did see some green wire core leads advertised for Alfas but was not sure how close it was Dave.

You can use carbon leads with acorn connectors.

GS told me I couldn't,
does a carbon core work the same way using the little brass disc to hold the core?

If Green's said they couldn't then if I was you I would go by his recommendations.
HOWEVER, I have successfully used them without any problems on a number of cars. I just strip back the insulation & trap the conductor as you would normally. I do however always use a rubber cap on the coil which may help hold everything together.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
I might just get some wc200's to go with my black wire.
Thanks Dave
