Haha! It was a good day! Its all down hill from here! Get that loom connected and then start to fit the rest of the bits. A nice set of 4.5 'S' wheels would look a treat!

Gonna pull VFF out in the open tomorrow and try to fire the 1293up! Decided on the way home tonight to replace the whole floor pan and do it properly! :D

Where do all these surf blue Mk1's keep coming from?
Engine looking good, I assume that its just been freshened up cosmetically rather that re built? I intend to do just the same with mine over the winter. What make of paint did you use, aerosol or brush?

Hi miniminor, I used Summerfords engine paint (Part Number: EP3SP). Hope this helps?

Looks a remarkably good original car. What is the background or story to it?

It's the famous 'UPR 65', Stu Watson's old stead. A very original and amazingly preserved little Mini. 8-)

So that's were my old banger is now.

The car was brought by a lady in Dorset in 1963, who owned the car for almost 40 years. The car was taken off the road in the early 1990's. When purchased by the next owner in in the early naughties it was re-commissioned and put back on the road. The car was then resold to another owner around 2005. One of the two owners lost (or retained) all of the old documentation and replaced some of the original parts with new stuff. The original bumpers, washer bottle, petrol cap and some interior panels were lost at this time. I found the car in 2008 at a classic car dealer in Yorkshire with 61,000 on the clock. At first viewing I brought the car on the spot as it was them most original shell I had ever seen, and was far better than all of the Coopers that I had been to view. As most know I drove the car to many events for the next 4 years, clocking up over 10,000. and after the 2012 season I decided I had had my fun and sold UPR. I don't miss the old banger as I think an 850 is just too slow.

By the way. if you are wondering why there are ridges in the tyre side walls, I tried out some white wall flaps in 2011. After a trip to Beaulieu and back I took them off after finding that they were wearing groves into the tyres.

It's good to see it's getting the attention it deserves and another freshening up.

Good luck

Stuart
