I would like to fit rear seat belts to my 1963 super de-lux. I don't want to weld the back pillar so i was thinking of lap belts. Has anyone done this? would it be legal?

In a 63 car anything is legal as there is no requirement for belts at all.

Fitting lap belts is certainly an option that would look OK, but I am not convinced that lap belts are much safer than nothing at all.

I've been looking to do the same thing for a while now, and have got as far as purchasing some Securon 254's three pointers to go on the parcel shelf. Had no time to try fitting them yet as I want to make/get some suitable spreader plates etc.

Its probably been said before, but mounting stuff like seatbelts to the parcel shelf is useless. If you have to. sending them down a slot at the back of the seat to the seat back or boot floor is preferable.

I've fitted a single Britax lap belt to the rear of two of my Mini's for some sort of protection for my daughter.

I'd agree that they are not brilliant but must provide a little more protection than what I have in the front of the cars - nothing !

I got some seat belt anchorage plates, with the welded nut, from a scrap Metro and then drilled two holes in the rear bulkhead as low down to the boot floor as I could get, and bolted the belt in.
