What happened to works car LBL 66D ?

Post by monkeyjim »

Just wondering, as I have come across a picture of it at the Mini's 30th birthday event at Silverstone .

It has extensive roof damage but looks in period guise suggesting the crash happened in the 60's . Makinen drove it to 41st on the 68 Tulip rally but after I am not sure .
I cannot find my Works Minis book , it is bound to say in there .
Was the car re-shelled and restored since Mini 30 ?

Any ideas ?

Here are some pics I took at mini 30, I'm sure that the owner rolled it on an event in the north east shortly after getting the car from the works, he had it stored in the back of his garage, and was persuaded to bring the car to mini 30, love to know where the car is now.

Thanks for replies .

Very interesting stuff , it would in some way be a shame to restore it but on the other hand as you can see by the pictures the owner resisted changing things on the car during the 70's .
If restored it looks like it would retain all of it's original works kit .
I might just sort the shell out if it were mine .

Hi Pete

All sorts of possibilities would be nice to have a good display of cars not on the track. However just received an email from Carol U2TC Spagg and realised it's the same weekend as the Donnington Historic Festival which will mean many of the Appendix K Mini's will be performing there. But. will do what I can, if we can gather momentum who knows?
