While working on mating my engine and gearbox, I failed to note the original orientation of the idler gear. The only distinguishing feature I can see is that one end of the 'axle' has a larger, chamfered hole. Otherwise, the axles are the same length, diameter, so the gear will fit either way.
There are no wear patterns that give me a clue, so I'm stuck. Does anyone know which way it goes?

It will go in either way. Shouldn't present any problems especially as there is no noticeable wear.

Thanks for the reply. I was able to speak with the guy who built my gearbox this morning, and he agreed....it's not critical.
