1071 Speedo question
My 1071 speedo is missing the top middle plastic bulb. I'm not sure what colour it should be.
Parnel's book is inconclusive. Can someone help?
Thanks

Re: 1071 Speedo question
The lens is in fact red but there should be a rubber cover over the mount where a bulb holder would be. I have many mk1 speedos but can't recall any having a bulb at the top.

Thanks.
I meant the lens. I found a photo of one via google which had a green lens ?
Red sounds right to me.
Cheers

Re: 1071 Speedo question
All the 'S' types I have seen have NO lamp at the top, ie the 70mph position...
The 90mph types had a green lamp at the top, 50mph position.
Left side top, Yellow, Spare/Oil Filter
Left side bottom, Blue, High Beam
Right side top, Yellow, Oil Pressure
Right side bottom, Red, Ignition/Dynamo/Alternator Charging
Top (Optional), Green, Indicators
Out of interest, I usually wire BOTH the yellows to the oil pressure switch,
to provide a "spare" in case a bulb goes. The second one used to be connected
to the oil filter pressure differential switch and was supposed to indicate when the
filter was clogged.
If you only change the filter when prompted by a lamp, shame on you!

Re: 1071 Speedo question
I have an early-ish (black face) 90mph one with a black dummy lens at the top.
It's black and light won't shine through it at all.

Hi Andrew
So you have a red lens at top also?
When did the speedos change to having no lens at top?

Re: 1071 Speedo question
So a couple say red and a couple say black.
Could it just be a random BMC thing or ?

Re: 1071 Speedo question
Having checked, I have a red one that is blanked off & a black one. Both are early 1071 clocks.
