Alternators/ dynamo
I have a wiring loom brand new from autosparks for my Austin cooper project . It is one of there alternator looms . I don't really like the look of a alternator and was wondering if anyone has tried one of those alternators that look like a dynamo . The plug on my loom is one of those with the 3 wires going to it , the square type . Would one of those alternator/ dynamos have the same fitting ? . Who sells these ? How much ? . Thanks

Re: Alternators/ dynamo
I fitted one of these on my Mini, its completely indistinguishable from the dynamo and works really well. Its basically a single wire alternator with a main battery feed and a warning light wire. I used one of the trick dummy control boxes also, so it made wiring really easy. I could also put the coil back on top.
It was not cheap, (going by some of the NOS prices it makes one of these look good value!) but I can always take it off the car when I sell it and put the dynamo back, all the fittings are the same.
I have got a heated screen so a dynamo was a no go option and a normal lucas job would look naff on an early car. I fitted a really small pulley so I can keep the alternator on full chat at low revs also.
I got Powerlite one from them at Race Retro, Minispares now does them I noticed:
