Lucas 45 Distributor

I'm building an engine for my A35, I have a sprite 1100 block, and a 12G295 head, I was going to fit 1.5 rockers and I bought a Lucas 45 Distributor, rather than the 25.

My question!

Its an A-series block, and I thought I had bought the correct dizzy, however, it seems its an A+ fit dizzy, with the larger base for the pronged clamp, rather than the bolted pinch clamp.

With a custom clamp, will it fit my A-series block, or am I best cutting my losses and getting another!?

Hope I've made sense!?

Ed

In short, yes, it can be used, you'll need to do some mods though;-

Change the drive dog on the dissy for an A type
On the dissy drive sleave that fits in to the block, weld a small tab on the side of it, in to which you'd drill & tap a hole for a bolt that will hold the A+ type clamp.

I do this mod to nearly all my cars with A series, as the early dissy clamp set up is really crap.

Gotcha!! Thanks very much! So will I be able to use the drive from my old 25 in this? Is it the full shaft or just the end part?

Many thanks!

Ed.

Spider is en-route on another marathon Moking adventure (east to west across the continent this time) and he's left his login details at home so he asked me to post this:
Spider wrote:Yeap, the 25D drive will work OK. Just knock out the pin holding the drive dog in place on the A+ dissy and remove the dog, do the same on the 25D4, but make yourself a little sketch first showing the orientation of the dog to the rotor arm (so you don't end up with it 180 degrees out of whack) and then re-fit the drive dog to the A+ dissy.

Tim,

Thanks ever so kindly for posting that up for me. I did the same thing (left my log in details at home) on the last trip. Doh!

Tedmcedd,

No worries mate, hope it all works out :)

No worries Spider, sounds like another epic trip. What's next, a circumnavigation?

Sorry for going OT here, Tim, yes a circumnavigation is actually on the cards, but not until about 2016. Next year (fingers crossed) will be the Simpson, but the more I look in to it, the colder my feet are starting to get. Will be an exceptionally trickier one that.

Back OT - tedmcedd, yes, I had a few drive dog pins on which I have broken pin punches. These days if they don't budge on the first whack, I press them out.

Thanks!

Managed it in the end! I stripped the 45, and stuck the body on the lathe, turned it down so I could use the clamp from the 25 (simply because I didnt have an A+ fork!!)

Need to put the engine in now! and see if it works!!
